Mamidikaya Pulihora | How to make Raw Mango Rice

It’s a traditional dish. Mostly people use to prepare on festivals and occasions time. This the favorite dish to lord Durga matha and Sai Baba. Mamidikaya Pulihora is a famous recipe in South India.

Ingredients to make Mamidikaya Pulihora:

3 cups cooked white rice

1 1/2 cups grated raw green mango

5-6 tbsp roasted peanuts

2 tbsp roasted broken cashewnuts

salt to taste

1 1/2 tbsp oil

1 tsp mustard seeds

1 tbsp channa dal

1 tbsp split black gram dal

3-4 dry red chillis

6-8 slit green chillis

1 tsp grated ginger (optional)

1/4 tsp asafoetida

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

15-20 curry leaves

Mamidikaya Pulihora Preparation Method:

Take rice and soak well in the water and cook the rice. Keep it aside till it comes to normal temperature. Take a mango and peel the skin grate the mango and keep it aside. Take some peanuts and cashews roast it. Keep it aside.

Now take a heavy bottomed vessel and heat oil in it. Add mustard seeds once it starts spluttering then add chana dal and fry it. Add red chillies, green chillies grated ginger and fry it on a medium flame. After getting slightly fried add curry leaves, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Roast for few minutes.

Add the grated mango to the mixture and fry it for few minutes and then add the roasted peanuts, cashews and switch off the flame. Take the boiled rice and spread it widely on the plate. Now add the mixture on the rice equally with your hand. Add salt to taste. Serve Mamidikaya Pulihora hot with perugu, pickle or pachadi according to your taste.
