The benefits of nuvullu or sesame seeds are numerous. These seeds are small but they have a lot of power inside them. Sesame seeds help in the promotion of a health hair, healthy muscles and healthy skin. It promotes the metabolism and increases the muscles growth and acts as a natural supplement. Sesame seeds help in maintaining healthy scalp and removes lice. They protect your bones and builds strong bones. They help in maintaining oral health. They are good for pregnant woman and for the eyes.
The following recipe is about sesame seed rice. This is a quick recipe that is very easy to cook and healthy to eat at any time.
Ingredients to make Spicy Nuvvula Annam:
2 cups of cooked white rice (each grain should be separate)
2-3 green chillis slit length wise
1 1/2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds
15-20 fresh curry leaves
1/2 tsp Bengal gram (senaga pappu,channa dal) (optional)
2-3 dry whole red chillis (add more for more spicy)
1 tablespoon Peanuts
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1¼ cup of seasame seeds
Salt to taste
Ellu Sadam Preparation Method:
To prepare this take a pan and roast the red chillies without any oil and add coriander seeds to this and toss them till they are fried well. Now take out and make them into a fine powder. Take a pan and add some ghee to it and heat it for a minute. Add mustard seeds to that pan and wait till they splutter. Add some Bengal gram and fry it till it becomes brown in color.
Add few curry leaves and also green chillies to this and let them fry so that the leaves turn crispy.
The combination of curry leaves, Peanuts and sesame seeds will give you a pleasant aroma. Now add the powdered red chillies and coriander powder to the sesame powder and add salt to it.
Now take required amounts of rice and wash it and place it in a rice cooker and cook it.
Once the rice is ready add the powdered sesame seed mixture to the rice and mix well.
You can add some gravy or any rasam to this and enjoy the dish.
You can use readymade powders in this preparation but it is advised to go for dry roasted chillies the kitchen. Even in the case of curry leaves try to use fresh leaves to add more flavor to the dish.
